Western Books on Southeast Asia
This is a collection of 318 rare Western-language publications selected from Cornell University’s John M. Echols collection on Southeast Asia, published during the 17th and 19th centuries. The collection brings together nearly three hundred years of writings by travelers from Europe to Southeast Asia. Countries covered include Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia), Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Java and Indonesia, and the Philippines. These publications range from official reports of government sponsored expeditions to personal journals of people traveling through the region on business or pleasure.
